Together we can DO IT!
5thGrade Celebration Events:  Help plan year end activities for 5th Grade class.
5th Grade Legacy Project: This is a permanent art project produced by the 5th grade class and left behind at Fernwood as their legacy to the school.
Art Docent:  Facilitate art projects in the classroom utilizing suggested lesson plans and materials.
Assemblies: Work with teachers and staff to select music, plays, authors and hands-on assemblies for student enrichment. 
Bingo/Raffle Night: This is one of Fernwood’s most popular events – and it’s fun to put on as well.  Assist with set-up, tear down, organizing prizes/donations, selling Bingo cards and concessions.
Book Fair: Help set up and take down this annual event that raises money for our library. Schedule volunteers to work the cash register and assist with Family Night.  This event usually occurs the week after Thanksgiving.
Box Tops/Labels for Education: Collect Box Tops/Labels for Education throughout the year and send them in for money for our school.  Have fun organizing class competitions and rewards. This position is easy to do from home. 
Bulletin Board/Binders: Maintain our office bulletin board with current PTSA information and decorations.  Ensure committee binders are up to date and are returned at the end of the year. 
Cultural Night: Put together a fun event for families where we celebrate our heritage and/or our favorite cultures. Food & dance welcome! 
Directory: Prepare student directory. Have printed & distribute. (Fall)
Field Day: Help out with one of the many fun activity stations. May be required to get wet! (June)
Financial Review Committee: Review PTSA documents with other committee members and answer a multiple-choice questionnaire.  PTSA Treasurer will be available to answer questions.  No accounting experience required. (January & July)
First Day Packets: Help assemble packets that are sent home on the first day of school. (August)
Fundraising: Help committee chairs circulate flyers, process orders, and sort/distribute product.
Grants (Student Enrichment Committee): Provide funds at either a classroom level, grade level or entire school level that will enrich the current and/or future student body of Fernwood Elementary, while adhering to our PTSA Mission. Review grant requests - within the approved budget - from staff, students and PTSA members and approve according to PTSA Mission, IRS rules and WA State law. A minimum of three PTSA Members, at least one of which is a PTSA Executive Board Member and at least one of which is a non-Executive Board Member. Committee members may only serve on SEC for 2 consecutive years.
Golden Acorn Committee: Solicit nominations and present Golden Acorn awards to outstanding volunteers.   Includes last year’s winners plus three other volunteers.
Health Screening Day: Assist school nurse with Vision and Hearing screening. (October) 
Ice Cream Social: Help with setting up and handing out ice cream treats at this fun back-to-school event. 
Jr. Achievement Program: Teach business and real-life skills in your child’s classroom, using provided materials and scripts.
Library Volunteer: Help out in the library during the school day.  This includes checking books in and out and re-shelving books.
Picture Day: Assist photographers and prepare students for their pictures.  (September)
Popcorn Fridays: Help out with Popcorn Days; usually once a month. 
Recycling (Ink Cartridges/Cell Phones): Collect and turn in recycled cell phones and ink cartridges to raise money for our school. This position is easy to do from home.
Reflections: Facilitate student entries for this fun national PTA fine-arts contest.  Distribute entry forms, collect submissions, coordinate judging and present awards.
Safety: Work with Fernwood staff to help keep our kids safe! Maintain emergency supplies, and coordinate drills and disaster preparedness efforts.
School Beautification: Help keep our campus looking beautiful!  Coordinate with school and PTSA to find a day to clean up the campus.   Organize volunteers to help, focusing on Community to donate time and materials.
School Spirit Sales: Help spread Fernwood pride! Select and order Fernwood apparel, pencils, and other novelty items to sell throughout the year. 
Science Fair: Promote the science fair by creating posters and certificates, mentoring students, and helping with pre-planned activities the evening of the science fair.  No scientific knowledge or background required.  Curiosity and a sense of adventure preferred.
Social Services: Help collect and distribute items for a canned-food drive, coin drive, clothing drive or other worthy community events. 
Spaghetti Dinner: Coordinate a fun evening of people and pasta with pizzazz!
Staff Appreciation/Sunshine: Have fun showing Fernwood teachers and staff how much we appreciate them by organizing fun treats and activities throughout the year!  Keep up-to-date on changes with our staff and families at our school. Send cards and notices to acknowledge significant accomplishments or concerns.   
Variety Show: Show off our talented students! Follow the steps in the Variety Show notebook to produce this fun, once-a-year event. 
Watch D.O.G.S.: Dads Of Great Students.  Calling all dads, uncles, and grandfathers!  Here’s your opportunity to be a positive influence on Fernwood students by monitoring recess, lunch, or reading with students to name a few activities.    
Welcome Wagon: Recognize families coming to and leaving Fernwood. 
Yearbook: Collect pictures and information throughout the year and compile them in the student yearbook. Help facilitate school picture days. 
Year End Event: Coordinate a fun event to celebrate the end of the year.
